Wintertime Opening Hours
From October 26, 2009 until March 31, 2010 our wintertime opening hours are in effect. The museum will be closed on Monday. Tuesday thru Sunday, the opening hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Public guided tours of the permanent exhibitions are offered on Wednesday and Saturday, starting at 2:30 pm and additionally on Sunday and holidays, beginning at 2:00 pm. >>> find more information here ...

Special Exhibition CONFLICT Has Ended
Sunday, January 10, 2010 was the last day on which visitors could attend the special exhibition CONFLICT at Kalkriese, an exhibition that had been created particularly with the »2,000 Years Varus Battle« anniversary in mind. Last year it was awarded the »red dot« for communications design. The end of the exhibition was supplemented by a special weekend and family program with extended opening hours from January 8 - 10, free guided tours of both the new permanent exhibition and the special exhibition, including event programs for children, a visit to the conservator’s studio and magical highlights around the museum. >>> find more information here ...
Finds on Their Way Home
2,000 years Varus Battle are history now: As early as on the day after the special exhibition CONFLICT’s closing, the big packing started: Several hundred exhibits will be brought home to the owning museums in various European countries. With utmost care, these archaeological treasures of Germanic culture are prepared for transport. Many curators and conservators like Anna Tjellden from Moesgård Museum in Denmark come to Kalkriese to pick up the precious finds in person.
2010: Two New Special Exhibitions
After an eventful year 2009, two new special exhibitions are already in the works for 2010: From March 7 until July 11, 2010, the exhibition »Marcus Caelius – Death in the Varus Battle« will be shown in the visitor center’s new exhibition space. On November 20, 2010, the traveling exhibition »A Heaven on Earth« featuring the Nebra Sky Disc, opens. The Easter Festival of Lights (Oster-Leuchten) on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 will illuminate the area of Kalkriese’s antique battlefield with fiery images.
200,000 Visitors in the Year 2009

The two-hundred thousandth visitor of the year 2009 at Varusschlacht im Osnabrücker Land is a lady: On December 9, 2009, Katja Heering from Lüdenscheid visited Kalkriese the second time to attend the special exhibition CONFLICT. She was surprised with flowers and a gift: In 2010, she will be able to visit Museum und Park Kalkriese for free on a daily basis. District administrator Mandred Hugo and museum director Dr. Joseph Rottmann presented the anniversary guest with a museum year pass.
The symbols will stay
2,000 peace symbols individually designed by citizens from the county of Osnabrück traveled on as »ambassadors of peace« and can now be found all over the county of Osnabrück. 27 peace symbols – one for each member country of the European Union – could also send their peace message from their locations in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg and Deutscher Bundestag in Berlin. >>> find more information here ...
