The Chatti

The Chatti lived in an area neighbouring the land of the Cherusci and settled between the rivers Fulda and Eder. There were clearly relational ties between the two tribes, e.g. Ramis, who was the wife of the Cheruscan son of Segimer, Sesithakos, is the daughter of Ukromeros, who was a »princeps« of the Chatti.

Amongst the Chatti there was a tribe called Chattuarii. Although they are described by ancient writers as neighbours of the Cherusci and the Bructeri, it is unknown where exactly they settled.

The Chatti were allies of Arminius and the Cherusci, and fought side by side against the Roman legions in the Varus Battle.
