.The Ceiling Arrived on Flatbed Trucks

One of the most impressive moments during the construction phase was the installation of the ceiling on Museum und Park Kalkriese's new building at end of August 2008: Flatbed trucks delivered the pre- fabricated parts to Kalkriese – a total of 40 ceiling segments. The largest were 18 m in length, about 1 m wide and weigh up to 13 metric tons. The basis for the flat roof of VARUSSCHLACHT im Osnabrücker Land GmbH's future visitor center was created at an amazing speed: One by one, a truck-mounted crane weighing 150 metric tons hauled the concrete and steel parts over the trees. The parts were lifted high through the air and moved across 38 m to the building, where they were placed precisely like Lego bricks in their designated places – a spectacular construction step much enjoyed by museum staff and visitors alike.
