1884 - Julius Menadier
In December 1884, the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin sent an expert of numismatics to Barenau. Julius Menadier was to catalogue the coin collection.
All in all, he recorded 227 coins, including 131 dinars of the Roman Republic and 47 silver coins from Emperor Augustus' time. He noticed that many coins looked as if they were freshly minted and showed hardly any traces of abrasion.
