1753 – Carl Gerhard Wilhelm Lodtmann
In 1753, the lawyer and philosopher Carl Gerhard Wilhelm Lodtmann (1720- 1755) published a detailed history about the city of Osnabrück, the »Monumenta Osnabrugensia«. In it he connects the coin finds in Barenau with the retaliation campaigns of Germanicus in 14- 16 AD.
»The place itself (Barenau-Kalkriese) is not far from the rampart and from the Dümmer lake but it does not fit in with the battle. Therefore it can be claimed that the cavalry of both peoples fought in this area«.
