1698 - Zacharias Goeze
Zacharias Goeze (1662 - 1722) was a headmaster in Osnabrück (Lower Saxony, Germany). After viewing the Barenau collection of coins in 1698 he wrote in his book »De Nummis Dissertationis XX«:
»Mister Heinrich Sigismund von Bar … presented 127 coins from his collection, both golden and silver, found in the soil of Barenaue. He composed a short handwritten paper so elaborative, that no-one could have done better.«
