»Rome – Imperium between resistance and integration«
From the 14th to 18th of September 2009, renowned scholars from all over the world met in Osnabrück to deal with questions of peace and conflict-research in archaeology.
The congress was organized by the University of Osnabrück, the town of Osnabrück and the Göttingen Academy of Science. Under the title »Rome – Empire between Resistance and Integration« specialists discussed the strategies of the Roman occupation force and subdued societies in Antique Europe during the early Roman Imperial Period, i.e. the 1st century AD. Topics were, among others, the safeguarding of frontiers and power, as well as their effects on politics and economy, social structure, culture and religion.
A series of public lectures on the archaeology and history of Northwest Germany in Antiquity accompanied the congress program. The series was organized by the University of Osnabrück in cooperation with the City of Osnabrück and the Adult Education Center of Osnabrück.
