How much are the admission fees to Museum und Park Kalkriese?

Which types of payment are accepted at Museum und Park Kalkriese?

Of course, we accept cash payments, but also Eurocard (EC card) and popular credit cards, such as VISA or Mastercard.

How can I book a guided tour?

History comes to life during the guided tours and event programs of Museum und Park Kalkriese. You can choose between more than ten different guided tour packages. We will gladly take your individual wishes into account. You can reach our booking service from Monday thru Thursday from 10:00 am until noon and from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm plus Friday from 10:00 am until noon via telephone: +49 (0) 54 68 / 92 04 200 or mail: fuehrungen@kalkriese-varusschlacht.de.
If you call outside these service hours, please leave your name and telephone number on the answering machine. We will then return your call, even outside the service hours listed above.
Please note that you cannot book any guided tours at the museum shop, but the museum shop staff will gladly connect you with our booking service via phone.
Please inform us timely of any changes in the schedule of the guided tour you have booked (e.g. its date or number of participants).

What can I do if my group is late for a scheduled guided tour?

If it is foreseeable that your group will be late for the guided tour, please call the museum shop at +49 (0) 5468/ 9204 23 and inform its staff of your estimated time of arrival. Our guided tour team will gladly wait for you!

Where do guided tours start?

Guided tours start at the visitor center. Your tour guide will meet you at the cashier’s inside the museum shop. The shop team will take care of billing and provide all relevant information on site.

Are dogs allowed on the premises?

Dogs are generally welcome. However, you may not bring your dogs into the museum and special exhibition rooms. In the museum park, dogs must be leashed at all times. Thank you for your cooperation!

Are sanitary facilities and diaper changing tables available?

Inside the visitor center, the museum as well as at Gasthaus Varusschlacht, you will find sanitary facilities. All of them are equipped with a diaper changing table. In the daytime, you also have access to the restrooms adjacent to the visitor center near the bicycle rack.

Is Museum und Park Kalkriese wheelchair-accessible?

Most parts of Museum und Park Kalkriese are accessible to visitors with limited mobility. Lifts are installed at both visitor center and museum. A button next to the visitor center’s entrance allows you to open doors automatically. You may also ask the shop and supervisory teams for help at all times.
We kindly ask groups with several wheelchair-bound members to talk to our booking team that can be reached at +49 (0) 5468/ 9204 200. We will gladly provide help on the premises of Museum und Park Kalkriese.

Is there a restaurant or a coffee shop?

In close proximity to the visitor center, you can find our restaurant, the »Gasthaus Varusschlacht«. From coffee and cakes, from seasonal dishes to fancy Roman buffets, our restaurant offers a large variety of dishes, from snack sizes to opulent meals. We recommend you make a reservation for big groups to avoid long waiting times.
You may also request a special menu for big groups, to avoid long waiting times. The restaurant team will gladly give recommendations and ensure a smooth service.

Are picnics allowed in the museum park?

Picnics are allowed in the museum park. As a courtesy to other visitors, please don’t litter. Garbage cans are available in the entire park area. Barbecuing and open fires are prohibited in the museum park.
Please note that the consumption of food and beverages is prohibited inside the museum and exhibition rooms.

Can I ride my own bicycle in the museum park?

As a courtesy to other visitors, bicycles are not allowed inside the museum park. You can securely lock your bicycle to the bicycle racks in front of the visitor center.

Is smoking allowed on the premises of Museum und Park Kalkriese?

Smoking is prohibited in all indoor locations.

Do I have to pay for car parking?

During our opening hours, visitors can park their vehicles free of charge in the parking lots of Museum und Park Kalkriese. We only charge parking fees during big events, such as the Easter Festival of Lights or the Roman and Germanic Days.

Is it allowed to take photographs inside the museum?

Taking photographs, filming as well as any video and audio recording are allowed only for private purposes on the entire premises of the park and inside the exhibition rooms. It is prohibited to use flashlights and tripods in the exhibition rooms. As a courtesy to their participants, pictures of guided tours may not be taken.
If you wish to create recordings for commercial purposes, you must obtain permission from the management.

Can I bring bags and coats into the exhibition rooms?

Inside the museum, invaluable finds are on display. For this reason, you may not bring any bags or coats into the exhibition rooms. A sufficient number of lockers is available, in which you can securely store your valuables. The supervisory staff will gladly help you.

Can I rent rooms on the premises of Museum und Park Kalkriese?

Museum und Park Kalkriese offers rooms for conferences, seminars, workshops or other events. The event management team will gladly answer your questions. Please call +49 (0) 5468 / 9204 26. For private family celebrations, club or group festivities, Gasthaus Varusschlacht can provide information you if you call +49 (0) 5468 / 9396 0.

Is information available in languages other than German?

Text displays at the museum are mostly offered in two languages: German and English. Public guided tours are also offered in English, Dutch and French. Please inform the members of our booking team of your wishes prior to your visit by calling +49 (0) 5468 / 9204 200.
You also have the option of exploring the exhibition and the park on your own equipped with an audio guide in German or English language.
Flyers are available in English and Dutch translations.

Is there a museum shop?

The visitor center features a spacious museum shop with a wide range of literature on the Varus Battle, Roman and Germanic culture, the excavations at Kalkriese and much more.
Replicas of excavation finds worked into jewelry and decorative objects are highly original gifts, as are our t-shirts showing the Roman cavalry mask in the style of Andy Warhol, or replicas of Germanic necklaces made of colorful glass beads.
And have you heard of »Harter Hermann«? This is an air-cured German sausage specialty (Mettwurst). Are you familiar with »Imeldas Bester«, a delicious fruit jam? The museum shop of Varusschlacht Kalkriese offers you a wide range of culinary delights.

Can I visit Kalkriese via public transport?

Bus line X275 will take you to Museum und Park Kalkriese from the central train station Osnabrücker Hbf.
